Back in February, SylCreate announced that we would be attempting to make a new Green Stuff modelling putty. The project was undertaken after PPG shut down their Polymeric site in the United States, discontinuing production of their entire range of epoxy putties – including the original Kneadatite Green Stuff.
What have we been doing for nine months?
Nine months later and we can finally bring you the update our R&D team have been working so hard towards. New formulation followed by new formulation followed by new formulation of Green Stuff were made, tried and tested.
At one point, you could not move in the SylCreate lab for pots of Part A and Part B. Our MD even had samples piling up on his dining room table. Don’t ask his wife about it… still a sore subject.
The challenge with formulating a new Green Stuff from scratch was creating a putty which replicated as close as possible the unique properties of the original. Such as its stickiness and flexibility even when fully cured.
This process was not as straightforward or quick as we would have liked. As you can probably tell by the fact it has taken longer than a full-term pregnancy.
Samples were sent out at the end of the summer to select distributors and end-users around the world to handle and work with. We received honest and helpful feedback which in turn helped us tweak the formulation further.
But now we think we have finally done it. The R&D team are about to sign off on their new version of Green Stuff 2.0
What is new Green Stuff 2.0 like?
Now you are probably wondering what new Green Stuff 2.0 is like? It is smooth and sticky, with the chewing gum-like quality of the original. It flexes, unfurls and refurls. And most importantly, it is malleable when set.
The video below shows Green Stuff 2.0 in all its glory. If you like what you see, subscribe to our YouTube channel for further updates.
What next for Green Stuff 2.0?
Green Stuff 2.0 is as close to the original as we can make it. And it will be available to buy VERY soon from our online store and then from other distributors worldwide.
What comes next? Well, we know what the model making and miniatures community wants. You have not been shy in telling us! A version of Green Stuff which is grey-coloured. It could be imaginatively called Grey Stuff.
Our R&D team will be taking a well-earned break from modelling putty development and figuring out how to make an epoxy which still bends when set before they start pondering if we can formulate Grey Stuff. Watch this space.
