Clear gloss trusted by professional restorers and curators for reglazing and repainting china and ceramic without the use of heat

SKU: CGPRO2-1.25litre Category: Tag:

Description

Coldglaze PRO 2 is a two-part clear gloss which replaces the glaze effect on china, ceramic, pottery and other materials without the use of heat.

When mixed with pigments or oil colours, Coldglaze can be used to repaint patterns, either via paintbrush or airbrushing.

It cures to a hard, smooth finish with excellent non-yellowing qualities. ColdGlaze is water-resistant, very tough and offers high strength surface adhesion. It has been tested for 20 cycles in a dishwasher at 60°C without signs of deterioration.

Professional curators and museums trust Coldglaze for restoring priceless items which could not withstand the heat used in traditional glazing processes, such as pieces which have undergone repair using adhesives.

Each 1.25 lire Coldglaze Kit contains 1 litre of resin and 0.25 litres of hardener. These are mixed at a ratio of 4 parts resin to 1 part hardener by volume in a clean container, such as a small foil or glass dish.

Coldglaze PT146 Thinners can be added to thin the glaze during mixing. To achieve a suitable viscosity for airbrushing, mix Coldglaze and then add approximately 20 percent by volume of P146 Thinners. S532 Matting Agent mixed with the glaze will provide a matt finish.

Retarder can be used to increase the cure time of Coldglaze. This gives the glaze longer to flatten against china, ceramic or pottery, improving the quality of the finish.

When airbrushing, Retarder reduces overspray and the cotton wool effect from the airbrush. Retarder is introduced by mixing into PT146 Thinners at a ratio of 5 to 10 percent by volume.

Once mixed, Coldglaze has a pot life of up to 8 hours at room temperature (20°C). The gloss has a surface dry of 10 to 15 minutes and a hard dry of 2 to 4 hours. Coldglaze achieves full properties after seven days.

The drying process of Coldglaze can be accelerated via force drying. A period of approximately 10 minutes should be left for solvents to evaporate first.

Ceramic and metal can be dried at temperatures up to 120ºC for 20 to 30 minutes. For plastic, extra care must be taken to avoid deformation. Plastic is typically force-dried at 60ºC for 2 to 3 hours.
